As a parent, here are four lunch ideas that I love to pack for my kids throughout the school week:
- Turkey and Cheese Sandwiches: I always make sure to use whole grain bread and lean turkey slices to pack a nutritious punch. Adding a slice of cheese and some veggies like lettuce and tomato makes it a well-rounded meal. Plus, cutting the sandwiches into fun shapes with cookie cutters adds a touch of excitement to lunchtime.
- Veggie and Hummus Wraps: Wraps are a great way to sneak in some extra veggies. I spread whole wheat tortillas with hummus and layer on thinly sliced cucumbers, carrots, bell peppers, and lettuce. Rolling them up and slicing them into bite-sized pieces makes them easy for little hands to manage.
- Fruit Kabobs: Kids love anything on a stick, so I like to make fruit kabobs by threading chunks of strawberries, grapes, pineapple, and melon onto skewers. I’ll pack them with a side of yogurt or honey for dipping to add a little extra sweetness and protein.
- Cheese and Crackers Bento Boxes: Bento boxes are a lifesaver for busy mornings. I fill them with an assortment of cheese cubes, whole grain crackers, cherry tomatoes, and baby carrots. Including a small container of hummus or ranch dressing for dipping adds a fun twist and keeps things interesting.
These lunch ideas are not only nutritious and delicious but also simple to prepare ahead of time, making them perfect for hectic school mornings. Plus, knowing that my kids are getting a balanced meal gives me peace of mind as a parent.
